Our take on this one
The Golden Circle and a glacier in one ten-hour day, driven in a super jeep rather than a coach, which is what lets it take mountain tracks between Þingvellir and Geysir instead of the main road. Þingvellir, where the Alþingi first met in 930; Geysir, where Strokkur still goes off; Gullfoss, close enough to the edge to feel the spray; then up onto Langjökull for an hour on a snowmobile. Hotel and bus-stop pickup in Reykjavík, all the snowmobile kit included. Two share a machine unless you pay for your own, drivers need a licence, and the minimum age is six. Departures at 08:00 and 09:00. Weather delays and cancels this one regularly — it is a glacier.
- Book it if
- People with one big day near Reykjavík who want the classic sights and something more physical bolted on.
- Skip it if
- Ten hours and €394 for three stops and an hour riding — if the snowmobile is the point, meet them at Gullfoss for €240 instead.

About this experience
The Golden Circle tour allows visitors to get in touch with some of Iceland’s most famous and exciting natural phenomena. Our first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, which is one of Iceland's most significant historical sites. It's the home of Iceland’s first parliament which was founded in 930 AD. From Þingvellir we head along mountain tracks toward the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir Hot Spring, the one spouting hot spring on Earth after which all other spouting hot springs are named. From there we continue on to Gullfoss (“the Golden waterfall”) where your proximity to its edge is so close you can feel the spray of the glacial water on your face. Next, we kick the action into higher gear to get even closer to Iceland’s nature and go for a one-hour snowmobile tour on Langjökull, Europe’s second-largest glacier.

Cancellation for this tour
Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.
If the weather cancels this tour
Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is a whiteout or too little snow on the approach track — decided the evening before or on the morning. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.
- 1Mountaineers of Iceland decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
- 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
- 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.
What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Why this one and not the cheaper one?
The nearest cheaper Glacier Snowmobiling from Reykjavík from Arctic Adventures is €316 — €47 less. Here is every difference we can actually measure.
| Mountaineers of Iceland · €363 | Arctic Adventures · €316 | |
|---|---|---|
| How long it runs | 10 hours | 7 hours |
The €47 buys you 3 more hours out. Whether that is worth it is your call — but that is what the difference is.
Sold out on your date?
Seats come back — a cancellation, or the operator adding a vehicle. Tell us the date and we will check once a day and email you if one opens. One email, then we delete the address; nothing else is ever sent to it.

Mountaineers of Iceland was honestly one of the highlights of my trip. The snowmobiling tour was SO much fun and exactly the kind of adventure I was hoping for. I will be totally honest — but no shade to Mountaineers of Iceland — the actual views were trash because it was snowing the entire time and visibility was terrible. 😂 But the view of Lucas leading the tour? Pristine. Hahaha. Lucas was an awesome guide and once he opened it up and picked up the pace a bit, I was lowkey proud that we kept up riding behind him. Mostly because I was fully committed to NOT tipping over like some of the other people out there and because I absolutely did not want to hear my friend roast me for the rest of the trip. 😂 Meanwhile I’m over here aggressively wiping snow off my visor every 12 seconds like I was fighting for my life in an Icelandic blizzard. In reality, I was completely fine — just being extra. Seriously though, such a fun experience and absolutely worth it. I had an amazing time.

A truly professional team. The instructors was great, the vehicles were brand new and reliable. We encountered challenging and pretty dangerous weather while leaving the mountain, but Johan, our driver was incredible— He remained calm and navigated us safely down the mountain under very difficult conditions and hard visibility.

This was our Basecamp where we met out other guides that kitted us up with protective gear and gave us a tutorial in using the snowmobile. Honestly, the Golden Circle tour was amazing.......but snowmobiling on top of a Glacier was DOPE!!!!!

Absolutely sensational, an experience of a lifetime, U NEED TO TRY. also I would like to thank the staff for accommodating my lateness and for working with me , they agreed to meet us at the Basecamp because we were late to the meeting point.

- Best Snowmobile Tour in Iceland (2026): 4 PicksThe snowmobile tours we would book ourselves: Langjökull from Gullfoss, the same glacier with Reykjavík pickup, and Eyjafjallajökull on the South Coast.
- Langjökull snowmobile: meet at the glacier or pickup?Meeting at Húsafell or Gullfoss costs about €245 to €270; a Reykjavík pickup adds €45 to €70 and a long day. Most people should drive or join a bus.
- Super jeep tour in Iceland: worth the extra money?Worth it where a bus can't go: highland F-roads, Þórsmörk, glacier edges, deep snow. Not worth it for the Golden Circle or South Coast in summer.

Snowmobiling — questions people ask
Can you go snowmobiling in Iceland in summer?
Yes. Snowmobile tours run on Langjökull glacier all year because there is always snow on top. Tours leave from the Geysir area near Gullfoss (/experience/9999/), from Húsafell in the west, or from Reykjavík with transport (/experience/2874/). In June to August the snow is softer and the light is long; in winter the surface is firmer and the views are whiter. Both are fine. Weather cancels tours at any time of year.
Do I need a driving licence to drive a snowmobile?
Yes, a full valid driving licence to drive. Passengers do not need one and ride behind the driver. Standard pricing is two people per snowmobile; if you want to drive alone, most tours sell a single-rider supplement, and the tour page lists it. Minimum ages apply for passengers as well as drivers. Bring your physical licence card; a photo on your phone is sometimes refused.
What is included on a snowmobile tour?
The snowmobile, fuel, a helmet, balaclava, insulated overalls, gloves and boots, plus a guide leading the group across the glacier for roughly an hour of riding. Transport up the glacier from base camp in a modified truck is included; transport from Reykjavík is only included on the versions that say so. Bring your own warm base layers, sunglasses and a camera. Lunch is not included unless the page says it is.
Is snowmobiling worth combining with the Golden Circle?
If you have one spare day and want both, yes. The combined tour (/experience/17762/) does Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss then drives you up Langjökull for an hour on the snowmobiles, about ten hours in total. The downside is pace: the Golden Circle stops are shorter than on a plain sightseeing day. If you have two days, do the Golden Circle properly and snowmobile from Geysir on the second.
