Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 24 hours before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is sea state — the skipper decides an hour or two before departure. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Siglo Sea decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 1 day before departure, the operator's policy after that.

It was one of our favorite Iceland excursions! We did have perfect weather which probably helped enhance our experience. The guide, Ola, was fantastic. We received a message the night before alerting us to unfavorable wind conditions in the morning when our trip was scheduled, it was recommended to move our appointment to later in the day or cancel. We were able to push it out a few hours and it was perfect weather. We were outfitted in dry suits, but we probably didn’t need them (unless we fell into the water, which is very hard to do.) the guide kept a nice pace for us, well me mostly as I am not a strong paddler. She gave us the option for lots of talking or just a quiet scenic paddle…we had both. The fjord and the town are just beautiful. We highly recommend this tour!! PS, the little Herring Cafe that was suggested by Ola had the BEST meal I’ve ever eaten!

We did the private SUP tour with Tom and it was just wonderful! We went all around the calm fjord, looking at the ruins of the old herring factory and the shipwreck, having a great time in the water. The kids (10&12) loved it too- they even jumped into the water at the end, having a blast. Tom knows a lot about the area and made this trip a truly memorable experience for all of us! Higly recommend!!

The tour was just amazing! There were some last minute cancellations, but instead of canceling the whole tour I was basically upgraded to a private tour. Tom, my guide, was just great. He explained everything from the kayaking basics (e.g. how to properly put on the dry suit; different kayaking techniques) to details and stories about Siglufjordur and the nearby areas. The route on kayak itself was easy and fun. We also visited the other side of the bay and walked ashore. I highly recommend kayaking with Sigló Sea when visiting the North of Iceland! :)

A+ experience! My wife and I were the only two on the tour. She was a bit nervous about whether she'd be able to do it, but it was a lot easier than she thought. While I have no doubt our guide, Tom, would be able to keep up with the most athletic of kayakers, he seemed just as happy leisurely kayaking around the fjord with us and enjoying the conversation. He was a wealth of knowledge, not just about kayaking and getting the gear on, but also about the area and any questions we threw at him. It seems counterintuitive, but the weather in Siglufjordur was fantastic in June - even though it is the north cost of Iceland, there is a bit of a microclimate in the area that traps good weather in the fjord. If you're on the fence about kayaking in the North Atlantic, I can't recommend enough that you add this tour to your itinerary - you won't regret it!

Boat tours — questions people ask

Where do boat tours leave from in Reykjavík?

The Old Harbour, on Ægisgarður pier, about five minutes' walk from most downtown hotels and ten from Hallgrímskirkja. Elding and Reykjavik Sailors both have ticket offices there. Whale, puffin, sea-angling and northern-lights boats all use the same area. Arrive thirty minutes before departure to check in. The Viðey ferry (/experience/1539/) leaves from the same harbour in summer and from Skarfabakki the rest of the year.

Is the Jökulsárlón boat tour worth it?

Yes, if you are already at the lagoon. A Zodiac gets you among the icebergs and close to the glacier edge in a way the shore cannot, and the combined glacier hike and Zodiac day (/experience/716547/) is the best full day in the southeast. Boats run in the warmer months only; check the tour page for dates. It is not worth a fourteen-hour day trip from Reykjavík just for the boat.

What is the difference between a Zodiac and an amphibian boat at Jökulsárlón?

A Zodiac is a fast rigid inflatable seating around ten, with a guide who can nose it near the glacier face and into iceberg fields; you wear a flotation suit and get a bit wet. The amphibian is a slow duck boat carrying larger groups on a fixed loop. The Zodiac is the better trip and the one we list. It has a minimum age and is bumpier; the tour page has details.

Will a boat tour be cancelled if it is windy?

Quite possibly. Operators cancel whale, puffin and lagoon boats when the wind or swell makes them unsafe or pointless, and Iceland is windy. The decision usually comes the evening before or early on the day, by email or text. You get a full refund or a new date. Book boat trips early in your stay rather than on your last day so a cancellation can be rebooked.
