Our take on this one

A private car and an English-speaking driver-guide for four hours on the Reykjanes peninsula, the stretch of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Reykjavík and the airport. The stops are Kleifarvatn lake, the steaming clay and vents at Krýsuvík, the mud pools of Gunnuhver, Reykjanesviti lighthouse with its bird cliff, and the footbridge over the rift between the two plates. Pickup from your hotel, the airport or wherever suits, with departures every two hours from 08:00 to 16:00, which makes it one of the few ways to see the peninsula on an arrival or departure day. The price is for the whole vehicle, so it gets reasonable from three or four people and is steep for one. Entry fees and food are extra. Recent eruptions have been close by, but whether any lava is visible is down to the volcano, not the guide.

Book it if: A family or small group with half a day near Keflavík who would rather not drive themselves.
Skip it if: At around €444 for the car it is expensive for one or two people; a shared Reykjanes coach costs a fraction of that per seat.

Reykjanes Peninsula is located along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates are constantly drifting apart about 2 cm (1 inch) per year. That is the reason why the peninsula is highly volcanically active and small earthquakes are not rare. During the Middle Age, several eruptions occurred in Reykjanes Peninsula, since 2020 there has been 6 volcanic eruptions so you can never write off seeing some hot lava.
