Svanshóll Apartments

Private Apartments - The Svanshóll Family offers a choice of 3 apartments to rent during your stay in the Westfjords. The apartments are stylish, cozy and very family friendly with private kitchenettes and bathrooms. Svanshóll is located 12 km off the Westfjords ring-road. It is situated 25 m from Hólmavík, 250 km from Reykjavik and 225 km from Ísafjörður. Svansholl is located half a kilometer from Hotel Laugarholl restaurant and the Sorcerous Cottage. Next to Svansholl you will find The Pool of Gvendur the good, a naturally warm geothermal outdoor swimming pool (32-35°C) and natural hot spring (41°C), perfect for relaxing after a long day on the road or hiking in the wilderness.

Cherry Berry Farm - Svansholl is the only cherry berry farm in Iceland, as one of the family’s hobby is growing fruit trees such as cherries, apples, plums and pears, which is highly unusual this close to the arctic circle. The fruit is grown in a cold greenhouse with about 50 trees. It's fun to visit the greenhouse and see what the family is doing, but they also grow spices, rucola, cabbage, beans and all kinds of berries (blueberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, gooseberries, honeyberries), flowers of many kind and more.

Natural Hot Spring - Right above Svansholl's greenhouse is a trail up the field to our natural geothermal hots spring (38-40°C). It is accessible by foot all year around, day and night. The hot-spring stands underneath a small cliff called (Kvíaklettar) where the elves live.

New forest - Svansholl is proud of their new forestry project, where the family has planted over 500.000 trees about 20 years ago.

Westfjords may not offer the best whether conditions or be suitable for agricultural forestry. Nonetheless, the locals were interesting in growing shelter forests and took part in a regional forestry project. Feel free to walk up to the hills or down to the aspen-field and explore our new forest.

Bjarnarfjarðará River is a perfect place for bird watching and experiencing the tranquility of an evening stroll along it. At the river you may see Harlequin ducks, red throated divers and other waterfowl can be seen by the river. Guests are free to hike through the hill side by Svansholl, past the aspen forest and visit the Þverá-Canyon, which is a lays besides Bjarnarfjarðará River. Explore the Icelandic wildlife by taking 1+ hour walk to enjoy the tranquility. There’s no need to bring a water bottle on this hike because the water in Iceland’s pristine rivers and streams is clean and safe to drink.

Winter visits

In the winter time we can also make cross country skiing-trails upon request, gaze at the starlit sky, hunt the northern lights (aurora borealis) or answer the calls of the arctic fox.
