Geothermal Exhibition

Geothermal Exhibition runs sightseeing day tours in Reykjavík, starting from Ölfus. We book them directly, so what you see here is their own availability and their own cancellation policy — at the same price you'd pay them.

“The Geothermal Exhibition is located inside of ON Power's Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant, the largest geothermal plant in Iceland. See into an operational power plant where electricity and hot water are being produced. Visitors learn about the geothermal production and distribution, Icelandic geology and history, and the many exciting innovation projects happening in and around the power plant, including Carbfix - where CO2 is turned into stone!”

As someone who guides visitors across Iceland with GlaciGo, I’m always looking for experiences that help travelers understand what makes Iceland truly unique. The Geothermal Exhibition is definitely one of those places. I highly recommend visiting this exhibition before exploring Iceland’s geothermal areas. It clearly explains how geothermal energy shapes Iceland’s landscape and how the country uses this renewable energy to provide heating and electricity for nearly every home. The interactive displays make complex topics easy to understand, whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or on your own. It’s fascinating to learn how volcanic activity, hot springs, geysers, and geothermal power are all connected to everyday life in Iceland. Many of my guests leave with a much deeper appreciation for Iceland’s incredible geology after visiting this exhibition. It adds valuable context before exploring places like the Golden Circle, Reykjanes Peninsula, or other geothermal regions. If you’re interested in Icelandic nature, volcanoes, renewable energy, or geology, the Geothermal Exhibition is absolutely worth your time. It’s educational, engaging, and one of the best ways to understand the powerful natural forces that have shaped Iceland.

The way which Iceland has harnessed the power of the Earth is really fascinating. This geothermal exhibition which is inside a powerstation is full of very interesting information and visual displays. It also has a small (self serve) cafe with hot and cold drinks and cookies! There is also gift shop area. It costs just £15pp, which for Iceland is very well priced. All of the staff we met were very friendly, helpful and informative. If you are interested in geothermal power, the extraction methods and the science behind it all then this is well worth a visit.

Quick 40 min visit on a tour. Excellent exhibition. I was not that informed around geothermal capture until here. Now I know 90% of Iceland has heating from this process and its a pure 100% renewable country (100% electricity from renewables). Exhibition was well presented and hosts were knowledgeable.
