Our honest take

If Silfra snorkelling or diving is the thing you came to Iceland for, pay the middle price rather than the floor — the difference usually buys a smaller group and a guide with time for you. If it's a nice-to-have on a day you're already busy, the cheapest option does the job. Either way, book it for a day early in your trip: if weather cancels it, you'll have another day to try again. Most of these run in Golden Circle, Reykjavík, South Coast, Reykjanes & Blue Lagoon.

Silfra snorkelling & diving prices: questions people ask

How much does Silfra snorkelling or diving cost in Iceland?

We sell 29 snorkelling & diving tours from 6 Icelandic operators. The cheapest is €100 per person, the typical price is €245, and the top end is €2,223. Snorkel or scuba. Silfra snorkelling in a dry suit is the standard price; certified diving is roughly double and needs a dry-suit certificate.

Is there a booking fee?

No. You pay the operator's own price and we take a commission out of it, so booking here costs the same as booking direct — with one checkout if you book several tours.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

On most of these, yes: cancel more than 24 hours before and you get the full amount back. The exact rule belongs to the operator and is shown on each tour page before you pay.

How cold is the water at Silfra?

Two to four degrees Celsius, all year. It is glacial meltwater filtered through lava for decades, which is why visibility runs to a hundred metres. You wear a dry suit over a thermal undersuit, so your body stays dry and warm. Your face, lips and hands are the parts that feel it, and after thirty to forty minutes in the water most people are ready to get out. Hot chocolate afterwards is standard.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to snorkel Silfra?

No, but you must be comfortable in water. The dry suit floats you, so you drift along the fissure with a gentle current doing most of the work. You do need to be able to swim, and operators set minimum age, height and weight limits and ask about medical conditions on a form. Check the tour page for the current limits before booking. Glasses cannot be worn under the mask; contact lenses are fine.
