What moves the price

Hours and how remote. A modified jeep with a guide is expensive to run, so these are among the priciest day tours, and highland routes cost more than a south coast run.

What the hotel pickup costs you

We can put a number on this rather than guess. Across 47 super jeep tours , the ones you drive to yourself have a middle price of €317, and the ones that collect you from your hotel have a middle price of €278 — 12% less.

The gap is small here, so pickup is usually worth taking. Private and charter tours are left out of this comparison, because their price reflects exclusivity rather than transport.

Our honest take

If a super jeep tour is the thing you came to Iceland for, pay the middle price rather than the floor — the difference usually buys a smaller group and a guide with time for you. If it's a nice-to-have on a day you're already busy, the cheapest option does the job. Either way, book it for a day early in your trip: if weather cancels it, you'll have another day to try again. Most of these run in North Iceland, South Coast, Highlands, Westfjords.

Super jeeps prices: questions people ask

How much does a super jeep tour cost in Iceland?

We sell 63 super jeep tours from 21 Icelandic operators. The cheapest is €117 per person, the typical price is €338, and the top end is €2,566. Hours and how remote. A modified jeep with a guide is expensive to run, so these are among the priciest day tours, and highland routes cost more than a south coast run.

Is there a booking fee?

No. You pay the operator's own price and we take a commission out of it, so booking here costs the same as booking direct — with one checkout if you book several tours.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

On most of these, yes: cancel more than 24 hours before and you get the full amount back. The exact rule belongs to the operator and is shown on each tour page before you pay.

What is a super jeep?

A four-wheel-drive truck or van rebuilt for Iceland: raised suspension, huge low-pressure tyres and a snorkel, so it can cross rivers, drive on snow and climb glacier tracks that stop a rental car. Groups are small, usually eight to sixteen people. Super jeeps are how you reach Landmannalaugar in the highlands, ice caves under Mýrdalsjökull and dark northern-lights spots off the main roads. They are pricier than a coach, and rougher.

Is a super jeep northern lights tour better than a bus?

Slightly, for two reasons. A super jeep can leave the tarmac and find darker, more sheltered spots, and with ten people rather than fifty you spend less time waiting at stops. Arctic Adventures' Northern Lights Explorer (/experience/209/) and Northern Lights by 4x4 (/experience/1088067/) are the standard options. The sky is the same either way; a jeep does not make clouds part. If budget matters, a small-group minibus gets you most of the benefit.
