About this experience

Landmannalaugar is a magnificent place. Lava field surrounded by mountains of colorful Rhyolite and one of the most popular places for hiking.
Landmannalaugar actually means “Land mans pool”, because of the natural geothermal pools in the area.
In the past, it was a welcome place for travellers who had traveled the country on horseback or on foot, to stop and bathe.

So do not forget to bring your swim suit and a towel with you on the trip.

Itinerary
Fossabrekkur
Wonderfully lush place. Close to the roots of Hekla is the source of the river Rangá. This is a wonderfully lush place in the middle of the desert. The river comes from underneath the lava and is ice cold and fresh. So bring your water bottles and fill them up with the best water you will find.

The Black Sand Valley
The South Coast offers The Black Sand Beach, on this tour we offer you the Black Sand Valley. We will make a stop at a top of a hill where there is a view over a valley covered with volcanic ash from the historical volcano Hekla. A place where you really feel like you’ve been stranded on the moon.

Landmannalaugar
Here we do a little hike and bathe in a natural hot spring.
Welcome to Landmannalaugar in Iceland. We will stop here for a few hours. The guide will offer you a hike up to Brennisteinsalda. During the hike your are surrounded by nature so peculiar that you would hardly be surprised if you saw an elf running by. The colorful rhyolite mountains and some small hot springs scattered all over close to Brennisteinsalda with a mystical steam rising up from them. When returning to the huts, after about two hours of hiking, there still is enough time to take a bath in the natural pool.

Hnausapollur Crater
Hnausapollur is a huge crater on our way from Landmannalaugar. The view over the crater is exceptionally beautiful with high contrast, red lava and the blue lake, makes this stop really wonderful.

Cancellation for this tour

Free cancellation until 7 days before departure; no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a new date.

If the weather cancels this tour

Iceland's weather is real. What usually stops this one is closed F-roads or a highland storm — decided by the Road Administration and the driver. Here is exactly what happens to your booking.

  1. 1Glaciers and Waterfalls decides, and tells us. Operators cancel when it is unsafe or pointless, and we back that call every time — we do not ask them to run anyway.
  2. 2We contact you by email, and by phone if your tour is the same or next day. You choose: another date if there is one you can make, or a full refund. There is no fee and nothing to argue.
  3. 3The refund goes back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, usually visible within a few working days. If this tour was one of several in your booking, the others are untouched.

What you do not get is the day back. If this is the only free day in your plan, put a spare day next to it — the planner leaves days free with the rest-day option. And if you want out because the forecast looks bad, that is your own cancellation: free until 7 days before departure, the operator's policy after that.

Who this is not for

  • Not for last-minute planners — free cancellation ends 7 days before, longer than most tours here.
  • Not available in winter; the operator runs it roughly May to September.

Read off the operator's own conditions. If none of it applies to you, this is a good one.

Why we list it

Glaciers and Waterfalls is one of 207 operators we work with — chosen for reliability, honest descriptions and how they treat guests when weather changes plans. We don't list everything; we list what we'd book ourselves. The six checks every operator passes →
